The $135 million Adelaide Aquatic Centre has opened to the public, marking a significant milestone for South Australia’s sport and recreation infrastructure.
Casual passes are available, with memberships activated from the centre’s opening, including early morning access from 5am.
Strong demand has followed the opening, with more than 2,000 people enrolled in learn-to-swim and squad programs, and 1,700 health and wellness memberships secured since memberships became available in November last year.
More than 100 sporting, community and health groups are returning to the purpose-built facility after operating from alternative venues across the Adelaide pool network during construction.
Ahead of the public opening, around 1,500 ballot winners were given early access to experience the centre during its first day of operation.
The project was completed less than two years after major construction commenced in February 2024. Landscaping works, including irrigation and turf installation, will continue over the coming month.
The build supported more than 1,500 full-time equivalent jobs across the life of the project, with more than 2,500 workers on site in the final stages of delivery.
The Adelaide Aquatic Centre will be operated by YMCA Aquatic, which also manages the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre at Oaklands Park. Reciprocal gym and swim access will be available across both facilities.
