Major Road Projects Victoria recently opened the final section of new lanes in Doreen, marking the completion of major works on the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade.

The opening of lanes between Painted Hills and Garden roads more than doubled the road’s traffic capacity in each direction between Plenty and Yan Yean roads.

Major works were initially due for completion in 2025, meaning the project team completed the milestone ahead of schedule.

Crews will continue undertaking minor works including landscaping and other finishing works along Bridge Inn Road over the coming months.

For the safety of crews completing these works, some lane and side-road closures will be in place on Bridge Inn Road at certain times.

Along with building and upgrading lanes, the project has improved key intersections, installed safety barriers and built shared paths.

The upgrade has also delivered the new four-lane bridge over Plenty River and repurposed the existing historic bluestone bridge as a section of shared path for pedestrians and cyclists. New traffic lights were switched on at the pedestrian crossing near Ivanhoe Grammar School in a boost for community safety.

The upgrade will help reduce travel times, improve safety and boost connectivity to homes, businesses and local amenities including Mernda’s train station and town centre.

Major Road Projects Victoria and with construction partner Laing O’Rourke are delivering the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade.

Major Road Projects Victoria Program Director, Dipal Sorathia, said, “We are pleased to have completed major works on the Bridge Inn Road Upgrade ahead of schedule with the opening of all lanes.

“We thank the community for its patience during these important works. We now look forward to completing the project’s finishing touches in the coming months.”
